HVAC maintenance.
Know what to ask.

A maintenance appointment is most useful when it has a defined scope. Tell the provider which heating and cooling equipment you have and mention unresolved symptoms. An advertised tune-up should not be assumed to include every repair, replacement filter or performance measurement.

During the assessment

Ask which checks are included, whether both heating and cooling are covered and how the results are documented. Share any manufacturer service records you have. If a fault is discovered, request a separate explanation and authorization process instead of treating open-ended repairs as routine maintenance.

Compare the complete scope

Compare the actual tasks, equipment covered, visit frequency and cancellation terms of a service plan. Check whether consumables, repairs and additional visits are separate charges. A clear service record is more useful than a vague promise that the system has been checked.

Have these details ready

  • Equipment list and available service history
  • Current comfort or operating concerns
  • Access and appointment preferences
  • Questions about the proposed maintenance scope

Does a maintenance plan include repairs?

That depends on the provider’s written terms. Ask which inspections, consumables, repairs and return visits are included, and which require separate authorization. Compare the scope and cancellation terms before agreeing to an ongoing plan.
